I want to spend some time talking about the importance of focus while visualizing. When we visualize, we are imagining the exact way we want something to appear physically in our lives. We have to look at all the little details and all the things about it, so this requires an incredible amount of focus. If you have used visualization before, you will know that it takes focus, just to see it exactly as you want it and exactly the way God has put it on your heart. Can this eventually give you a bit of a headache? Maybe. Sometimes. But that’s why I always refer to visualizing as work. It is work because you are spending time seeing something just as you want it to be and when you spend time seeing the minute details in your mind’s eye, trust me, that takes lots of focus.
Your focus can easily be swayed to this other thing or that other thing. That can happen pretty easily and it can take you away from your task. You simply have to bring your consciousness back to your visual and you have to refocus. If you have a timer on, so that you can gage how long you have been seeing that thing in your mind’s eye, you may have to reset your timer (I have done this many times in the past and that’s ok….these are some of the things we simply have to do when we are engaging in this and we have temporarily lost our focus).
Remember, our goal is to have this appear in our physical, lived reality and as such, is a gift to us. Its attainment will be to our benefit so we have to put in the work. If anyone tells you that visualizing is not work, they are misleading you. It is. And it takes time, effort and lots of focus. Can you be thinking about the many other things you have to do in your day? Of course! But you have to bring your attention back to what you were seeing. This is really important because if you let yourself stay off-course, you are not spending your time productively in visualizing it and I can tell you from personal experience of using visualization to manifest good things into my life, that if you don’t spend time seeing it deeply and in a focused way, you are much less likely to have it show up in your life.
The best and most effective ways to visualize are to really see the thing as an accomplished fact and in lots of detail in your mind’s eye, and then to make really sure that you are sustaining that image in your mind for at least a few minutes. In fact, this process should be a lot of fun (my friends and I sometimes refer to the state of being in visualization as “my happy place” because it is the space where want you want / your goal is achieved). Who wouldn’t be happy with that?!?! It’s the very space where you have (in the physical, realized sense) what you would want after having created it in your mind.
Don’t forget, listeners, that we are all creators. Every hour or every day, you are creating either good things or you are creating bad things. When you spend time seeing good things, you are much more likely to attract that and other good things into your life. Of course the opposite is true too. Where are you going to spend your time today? And tomorrow? And the next day?
I talk about these items in detail and how to make these a part of your everyday life in my books “Manifest It” and “Manifest It… Now”. I created these books because I believe that part of my mission in life is to help others create the life that God intended for them to live and without the proper tools, you cannot do that. You need to have the proper tools and you have to make time for these things in your life. I know we are all busy but this is worth the time that it will take.
So set yourself up for success by making sure you are spending at least 30 mins per day seeing what you desire and what you want to appear in your physical, lived reality. Get to a quiet space in your home or your work place to do this, turn off your phone if need be. Shut out distractions so that you have time to complete this and make sure that you are staying focused when you get a clear picture in your mind’s eye of the desires result.
Here is a vivid example I hope helps you on your path: when I was looking to get a new job in a school board several years ago, yes, I submitted my online application and all the required pieces (this is doing the work in the physical sense) but I also made sure to talk time at least once per day seeing myself having gotten the position by seeing the pay in my bank account, by seeing myself entering the schools and classes I wanted to enter and doing the actual work, by seeing myself talking to the people I would need to talk to and by seeing the hiring letter in my mind’s eye, in my email inbox. I saw each of these items down to the smallest detail and I can tell you that I did end up seeing each of those things in my lived reality and it was such an incredible feeling. Knowing that you not only have the power to do this by God and then actually seeing it happen is such a trip. It’s a wonderful feeling of accomplishment and empowerment and it is available to each person who puts in the time and the effort.
I also want to make clear that this is not a one-and-done thing. You have to keep seeing it because when we create, we have to see it more than once for it to be something manifested. We have to see it more than once in order for it to be something that has been solidly created and then can appear in our reality. How long does it take to create it? That is not up to us – sometimes people get things in a few days while some things can take months. The point is, though, that with this method, you can expect to see it and you can stay in an expected state while you are waiting for it. When we stay in an expectant state, we can expect to see that thing in our lived reality and when you begin to see little signs and hints that it is forming and you are attracting it, notice those things, celebrate them and allow them to be encouraging and motivating factors that will help you keep going. These are your little signs that the thing is manifesting and that your efforts are fruitfully paying off. It is really important to remain conscious of things because that also honors your efforts and your work.
Vision Boards
I love these!
Some people find that a vision board is also helpful in staying focused and on track and if that helps you and you have space in your home to put that up, then go for it! That is excellent! A vision board will help you to see it more frequently, to think about it more and therefore to attract it more. You may not think that that’s a big deal but I can tell you that it is because the more we think on something, the more likely it will be appearing in our lived reality in the way that we wish for it to. Your vision board should represent what you want and how you want things to appear and a word of caution here…your vision board has to be really specific. If you want to get married, you have to put things that clearly represent you getting married, not just a picture of a man. You would have to, for some examples, put the word “Married” on your board with your picture, a picture of your left hand with both your engagement ring and your wedding ring clearly seen and a picture of you wearing a wedding dress. Put the date that you would like to see as your wedding date – it doesn’t necessarily mean that that will be your wedding date but you are looking at that date and being hopeful and attracting that to you. These are all really important pieces and each new item you put up makes a difference – you are subconsciously looking at these pictures and it is solidifying your faith, your seeing of it and therefore, its attainment.
In the next set of posts, we are going to talk a little bit about some of the obstacles one can encounter on their way to achieving the manifestation of what they want. We are going to look at what obstacles can look like and then what you can do to overcome those. This is really important and I really wanted to take time to talk about this because obstacles are going to come, they are part of the human experience and if we don’t talk about them, then when they do come, you may feel frustrated and annoyed and it may lead to you giving up and letting go of all your progress made thus far. If we don’t take care of the obstacles, we are not properly preparing ourselves.
